Devotion: A Prayer for Holiness

JMJ

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven;

Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted;

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth;

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled;

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy;

Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God;

Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called children of God;

Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven;

And blessed art thou when men shall revile thee, persecute thee, and speak all manner of evil against thee for my sake rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is thy reward in Heaven for it was thus they persecuted the prophets that went before thee.

Lord, salt the earth with me, may I never lose my savor. Let me, Thy humble servant, be a light to the world that in my obedience to Thy Holy Will, my light might shine before men that they may see my good works and glorify thee, Father, who art in Heaven.

Make me, O Lord, an instrument of Thy peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, let me sow pardon;

Where there is doubt, let me sow faith;

Where there is despair, let me sow hope;

Where there is darkness, let me sow light;

Where there is sadness, let me sow joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Father, let every breath I exhale praise and glorify Thy name.

Grant each breath I take in be the flame of Thy Holy Spirit to set my heart ablaze with love for Thee, that I, a child of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who art most blessed amongst women, too, cry out from the depths of my being:

My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit doth rejoice in God my saviour,

For He hath considered the low estate of his servant,

For behold from henceforth all generations will call me blessed,

For He who is mighty has done unto me great things and holy is His name,

And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generations.

He hath shewed might with His arm; He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts; He hath cast down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the humble; the hungry He hath filled with good things and the rich He hath sent away empty; He hath holpen his people Israel in remembrance of His Mercy as He spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed forever.

O Lord, increase in me, through me, that I may decrease until only Thou art present in this creature of ash and dust.

Allow that like unto the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, ever immersed in prayer; sanctified by Thy Grace; consumed in Thy Will; filled with Thy Holy Spirit; obedient to the call and command of Thy Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, may go forth in the world as gentle as a dove and clever as a serpent.

That I may in every action, in every word, every sentiment preach Thy Kingdom, Lord of Lords, King of Kings.

I bear no staff for I fear no evil. Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

I take no bread for Thou preparest a table before me.

With me are neither script or pondering what I may say for I know, by Thy Holy Spirit, Thy Word will be imparted in me.

I rely not on money, the temporal goods of this world are mere vanities, vapor, a passing breeze.

Lord adorn me in Thy truth, clothe me in Thy perfect integrity, and never again let me don an image of mine own creation. But that I, created in Thine own image, may always reflect Thee. Grant that I, a living icon of Thee by Thy very Word and Will, ever do justice to Thy Name and Being.

Grant, O Lord, without exception that I finally and forever recognize, renounce, and reject without hesitation satan, his demons, his deceptions, his lies, his temptations, his promises, his pomps, his works, his anti-Christ, his anti-kingdom, his evil one.

Out of the abyss I wail to Thee, O Lord!

Lord, hear my cry, I beseech Thee: Let Thine ears be attentive to my cries for mercy;

Let my heart be not proud;

Let mine eyes be not haughty;

Let my soul be still;

That I may hear Thy still, small voice in the midst of the roar of this world, its storms, its lions.

Have mercy on me God in accord with Thy merciful Love, in thine abundant compassion blot out my transgressions, thoroughly wash away my guilt, and from my sin cleanse me.

For I know my transgressions, my sin is ever before me.

Against Thee, Thee alone have I sinned, I have done what is evil in Thine eyes, so Thou art just in Thy word and without reproach in Thy judgement

Behold, I was born in guilt. In guilt my mother conceived me. Behold, Thou desirest true sincerity and secretly Thou teachest me wisdom.

Cleanse me with hyssop that I may be pure. Wash me and I will be whiter than snow.

Thou wilst let me hear gladness and joy. The bones Thou hast crushed will rejoice.

Turn away Thy face from my sins. Blot out my inequities.

Create for me a clean heart, O Lord, renew within me a steadfast spirit.

Neither drive me from before Thy face, nor withhold from me Thy Holy Spirit.

Restore me to the gladness of Thy salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.

I will teach the wicked Thy ways that sinners may return to Thee.

Rescue me from violent bloodshed, O God my saving God, and my tongue will sing joyfully of Thy justice.

Lord, Thou wilst open my lips and my mouth will proclaim Thy praise. For sacrifice Thou desirest not, or I would give it; a burnt offering Thou wilst acceptest not.

My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit. A contrite and humble heart, O God, thou wilst not scorn.

Scribe upon my heart, O Lord, that I do not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth from thy mouth; that I shall adore Thee and Thee alone shall I serve. Let me never tempt Thee, O Lord, Thy Word, or Thy Holy Spirit.

I implore merciful God and loving Father: purify me, sanctify me, renew me.

The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. He maketh me to lay down in green pasture. He leadeth me beside the still water. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. For Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest me a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil. My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

My Lord Jesus Christ, My Good Shepard, I have heard Thy voice and knowest Thou. Thou hast laid down Thine own life for me.

I harken faithfully and obediently to Thy call and command to take up my cross each day and follow Thee; to love God with all my heart, with all my mind, with all my soul, with all my strength.

Sanctify me, O Lord, by Thy grace. Consume me in Thy will. Fill me with Thy Holy Spirit.

Come Holy Spirit, and fill my heart with Thy Holy Gifts.

Let my weakness be penetrated with Thy strength this very day, that I may fulfill the duties of my state conscientiously, that I may do what is right and just.

Let my charity be such as to offend no one, to hurt no one’s feelings, so generous as to pardon sincerely any wrong done to me.

Assist me Holy Spirit in all my trials of life: enlighten me in mine ignorance, council me in my doubt, strengthen me in my weakness, help me in all my needs, protect me in temptation, console me in affliction.

Graciously hear me Holy Spirit and pour Thy light into my heart, my soul, and my mind. Assist me to live a holy life and to grow in goodness and grace.

Come Holy Spirit

Breathe within me Lord

Amen.
